Conor in a few words

MA Interpreting and Translating (French and Spanish) graduate from the University of Bath. I am currently looking for opportunities to gain more experience in the translation industry and build my ongoing portfolio of work. I am an active member of two professional associations - the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) and CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists - and am actively working towards specialisms in sports translation and food and drink-related translation. I have recently been collaborating with the NGOs Translators Without Borders and ATD Quart Monde, providing my translation services for a good cause. Now, however, my goal is to build my own professional clientele at Conor Dunne Language Services.

My goal is to help your words travel worldwide. I am both familiar and comfortable with translating complex French and Spanish notions into accurate, concise and idiomatic English. Although I am more of a generalist translator now, I am actively working towards specialising in two areas: sports and food and drink-related translation.

Bath, United Kingdom

September 2019 - August 2020 (11 months)

Passed with Merit.

The MA Interpreting and Translating offered at the University of Bath is a vocational course grounded in theory and practice, one which seeks to train keen linguists to become professional language service providers. The course offers students an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the theoretical and professional frameworks of both interpreting and translation. Over the course of the year I translated a wide variety of texts - from legal documents to advertisements to French/Spanish literature - and trained in a range of interpreting types: Simultaneous Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting and Public Service Interpreting.

I worked at Southbourne School of English during summer 2018, after returning from my year abroad. It proved to be a thoroughly engaging and rewarding experience. My responsibilities included:

-Offering a pastoral role to the students and providing support if required.
-Ensuring agents were happy with their program, accommodating any special requests and seeing to the overall well-being of their students. Special requests would include, for example, day trips to Stonehenge, Brighton, Oxford and London.

-Welcoming guests upon arrival and processing their check in.
-Organising transport for guests to and from the airport.
-Ensuring all bills had been paid by the guests and liaising with the Directors to check weekly accounts.
