I'm a technical writer who specialises in end-user content. Hire me to write knowledge base articles, online help, web content, user guides and similar information.
25 years' experience, working in various industries, mostly software-related. These include SCADA systems in the utilities industries, IoT in data centre cooling industry, water pumps, health care services, and more.
My approach
My approach to technical communication is similar to that of content designers (I'm trained in that too):
1. Discover the audience needs
2. Reflect on 1 and plan the content, research where needed
3. Create the content
4. Review/test the content
5. Publish
6. Iterate based on feedback.
The aim is always to understand your customers' needs and to try and meet those in the documentation. I've always worked inside product teams, so can contribute to the UX as well, not only the text, but with testing and feedback on how products work.
Need someone that understands specific tools?
I'm familiar with several technical communication tools, including Paligo CCMS (so lots of experience with structured content) and MadCap Flare. I've also worked in various knowledge bases such as Zendesk and Freshdesk. So whatever you are using, the learning curve shouldn't be steep!
Other skills:
I've trained in copywriting and content design in the past and have done some UX writing as part of my technical writing work.
