Murex Environment Manager  - As a freelancer

June 2015 - June 2016 (1 year1 year)

Hired to assist in the largest Murex greenfield project ever, to make sure the project is delivered on time. Initially focused on reshaping Configuration Management, introducing Continuous Integration and Deployment:
- Migration from SVN to Git and design of the workflow strategy for multiple parallel development streams.
- Automation of CTT (Murex Configuration Transfer Tool) functionality: import, export, versioning and intelligent zip comparison.
- Versioning and push-button deployment of the application directory.

In a second phase, I redesigned the environment architecture across all development environments:
- Flexible distribution of environments across servers, to make optimal use of available resources and provide fast turn-around times to meet changing requirements.
- GUI based monitoring and environment management, including self-provisioning for developers.
- Development of a global dashboard, showing real-time status and performance of all environments, including an environment and interface booking calendar.

Murex environments lead  - As a freelancer

December 2013 - May 2015 (1 year1 year and 5 months)

Headhunted by former colleague to lead holistic review of existing technical infrastructure and implement major redesign to accommodate future growth, as well as reduce incidents, cut maintenance costs and increase performance. Developed MxML flows and Datamart reports for clearing of FX Options. Partnered closely with internal stakeholders, including risk and sales teams. - Delivered monitoring tool on Murex environments, including development, acceptance, testing and pre-production, for improved performance, reduced incidents, rapid incident resolution and easier capacity planning; oversaw high-level design, business stakeholder management and signoff, phased implementation and roll-out. - Environment management can now be handled by offshore teams as the user-friendly framework does not require deep technical expertise. - Introduced version control system and automated deployment for Murex developers; this has increased traceability, resulted in more efficient and safer deployments, and facilitated parallel development.

KBC Bank

Murex Consultant  - As a freelancer

April 2008 - December 2013 (5 years5 years and 8 months)

Initially recruited as Murex Support Engineer to provide global technical and functional support of Murex 2.11, including development with MxML Exchange, its interface with other trading applications. Rapidly progressed to Murex Developer as GOM / EOD stream leader for a large-scale migration project, and Murex Technical Consultant, fully accountable for the development, extension and maintenance of the MX Dashboard. - Pioneered MX Dashboard, a complete framework that monitors and controls the Murex application and underlying database, operating system and hardware, with front-end developed using JQuery and templated HTML, and back-end using OO Perl and Sybase database. - The framework supports all environments, particularly in production, and has enabled a 50% reduction in staff supporting the Murex environment, despite its substantial increase in complexity. - Instrumental to the delivery of major migration to Murex V3; workstream leader for GOM / EOD, responsible for global operating model and end-of-day setup and conversion of the complete Perl scripting framework and of performance track. - MX Dashboard made achievable a ‘nearly impossible’ migration from Murex 2.11 to Murex 3; KBC was one of the very first banks to migrate to version 3 and provided near beta testing for Murex. - Counteracted severe performance problems; further extended MX Dashboard to diagnose, analyse and solve performance problems of all Murex components, including design, software and hardware issues.
